A new smile for ElioElio was 5 years old and had never been to the dentist before coming to HealthPoint. His parents had immigrated to the U.S., and, although they worked several jobs, they had no dental insurance and could not afford dental care. As a result, Elio's top front teeth were broken and black, and his back teeth were full of holes. There were cavities in 12 of his 20 baby teeth-some of which he would need for the next seven years. Elio's dental problems weren't only painful-they embarrassed him. He wanted to have healthy teeth before he started kindergarten. At his first filling appointment, things went slowly due to Elio's limited English. But by his second appointment, he started trusting his dentist and hygienist. Eventually, we were able to restore his four front teeth just before the start of the school year. When Elio looked in the mirror, he grinned from ear to ear. His first day of school was going to be great. |
