Behavioral Health Program’s 20th Anniversary: Put It in the Win Column

"Put in the win column" That's what cofounder, Jeff Reiter exclaimed looking back at HealthPoint’s Behavioral Health program’s beginning. In 2004, Behavioral Health Education Training Program co-founders and Psychologists, James (Jim) Berghuis and Jeff Reiter created the program to support providers at the HealthPoint clinics. Jim Berghuis shared, “providers wanted more assistance with complicated needs from patients. Student programs [would be] helpful to train and get students in there to provide services until training was complete and hired after licensing and credentialing.” Jeff went on to explain that at the time, it was rare to find Behavioral Health providers trained in Primary Care, and thought it would be great to work with local universities to develop a pipeline for graduate students to train and eventually work at HealthPoint. As Jeff put it, “Seattle was a hotbed for integrated care.”

Looking back at 20 years of growth, it’s clear that HealthPoint’s Behavioral Health program has been successful. Jeff shared, “Couldn't have predicted such a huge success. wonderful to see the program has grown along with the organization (HealthPoint) and not left behind.” When looking to the program’s future, both Jeff and Jim agree that the program is in great hands and that they have complete trust in program alumni and Behavioral Health Education Program Director, Dr. Robert Allred to keep the program going.
