Looking back, Dr. Dan Delgado always knew he wanted to become a pediatrician. There were defining moments along the way—being hospitalized as a child, volunteering in the Child Life room at UCLA as an undergraduate and working as a Spanish interpreter where families often encouraged him to continue pursuing medicine.
“It was the sense of purpose and mission that propelled me when I doubted myself,” he remembers.
That sense of purpose led him to community health centers throughout his career and, eventually, to HealthPoint—where he continues his commitment to breaking down barriers and making care accessible to all.
One of the most important ways Dr. Delgado removes those barriers is through communication. He walks into every exam room with two simple rules:
Rule 1: The patient is the boss.
“I don’t want anyone to feel they have to ‘talk up’ to the doctor,” he explains. “Communication works best when we talk to each other on the same level.”
Rule 2: There is no judgment.
Health care is meant to be a safe space for patients and families to share openly. “It is my job to ask questions with empathy and sincerity to see how we can help.”
With a strong focus on preventive care, Dr. Delgado prioritizes spending dedicated time with his patients and their families—time to ask questions, discuss concerns, and understand what matters most to them. His goal is simple: to empower patients to advocate for themselves and feel confident in their health journey.
