Adele Secrest: Healthy and Helpful

Share

It all started with a health documentary back in high school for Dietitian, Adele Secrest. Adele explains, “It was amazing to me that just by helping people eat healthier we could prevent and help treat conditions like heart disease and diabetes.” Fast forward to her career, HealthPoint stood out to Adele as a great place to help the community with healthy eating.

One of her favorite experiences at HealthPoint is when patients experience the “aha!” lightbulb moment during an appointment and feel empowered to follow a healthy diet. Adele continues, “It always makes me happy to see patients not just understand the nutrition recommendations, but figure out how to strategize and apply them to their own life.” Despite everyday challenges patients face, they’re always willing to work towards healthier living. That’s why they’re Adele’s biggest inspiration and motivation to continue helping others.

Before HealthPoint, Adele briefly wrote blogs on nutrition for a notable Dietitian on the internet. Adele commented on her time as a Social Media Nutrition Assistant, “For better or for worse many people get their nutrition information from the internet and it’s helpful when there are qualified nutrition professionals to guide the public in understanding nutrition…. I was interested in the work they do to promote plant-based diets in an evidence-based way... I plan to release my nutrition-related content, with a focus on accessibility/eating on a budget.”

If there is one piece of advice Adele would want patients to walk away with it would be, “Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. These are very helpful for preventing and managing most common chronic diseases.”
