Family Medicine Residency Program

Contact & Visiting Student Information

HealthPoint Auburn North Sub-Internship for OMSIV or MSIV

Welcome to HealthPoint! We offer full-time, 4 week, sub-internship rotations from September through December every year. Our rotation provides students an opportunity to work intensively with our inpatient Family Medicine Service and at our community health center resident clinic. During this time, students will advance their medical knowledge and clinical skills, participate in complex care coordination in the inpatient and outpatient setting, and learn more about our residency program.

Rotation Overview

Family Medicine Service (FMS) – 2 weeks

MultiCare Auburn Medical Center, Auburn WA

Medical students enrolled in a sub-internship rotation are important members of the FMS team. Sub-interns (Sub-Is) assume the responsibilities of an intern including helping manage up to four adult patients at a time from admission to discharge under the supervision of senior residents and faculty. We manage a large, underserved population so expect to manage a wide variety of chronic and acute-on-chronic conditions on a team with one to two R1’s, one senior resident (R2 or R3), and a family medicine attending.

Clinic – 2 weeks

HealthPoint Auburn North, Auburn WA

In clinic, Sub-Is work closely with residents and attendings to provide full spectrum family medicine care for vulnerable populations including pregnant people, refugees, the uninsured, and more. Students will see at least one patient per hour and participate in unique aspects of the HealthPoint Auburn North clinic including our substance-use disorder clinic (SUDC), OMM clinic, and warm handoffs to the on-site behavioral health team.

Anticipated Schedule

Sub-Is are expected to work six days per week while on FMS and five days per week while in clinic. Schedules will vary, but a typical FMS shift is from 5:30am – 6pm and a clinic shift is 7:45am – 5:30pm. Students will attend resident didactics every Wednesday afternoon.

An example of the inpatient FMS schedule would be Monday-Saturday except Wednesday PM didactics with Sunday off. An example of the clinic schedule would be Monday-Friday except Wednesday PM didactics with Saturday and Sunday off. Click on link for a sample Sub-I schedule.

***Please communicate any anticipated schedule requests (ex. interviews, family obligations, school obligations, etc.) as early as possible.

Housing & Transportation

Sub-Is are responsible for their own housing, transportation and food during their rotation. MultiCare Auburn Medical Center has a small cafeteria; however, most students and residents prefer bringing their own meals. Previous students have stayed in Auburn, Federal Way, Renton, Tacoma, and Seattle.
